Important Notes:
- This product has been thoroughly tested on the Epson inkjet printers listed below. As Epson regularly changes the pin configuration and firmware on printers that utilise the T082N cartridge set, there may be some chip recognition issues with some printers... see WHEN DID YOU PURCHASE THE PRINTER... T0731, T0751 & TO811/821 SERIES CARTRIDGES on this information page: INSTALLING EPSON COMPATIBLE CARTRIDGES.
- As the chipset is one complete unit to provide for a single reset button, the order of the cartridges cannot be altered. You will need to ensure that your printer's cartridge order matches that of the unit.

Product Installation Instructions:
The following instruction set relates to installing this product on an Epson Stylus Photo T50 inkjet printer under Windows XP. The individual steps will be common across all printers and operating systems. Please note however, that some of the specifics mentioned may vary depending on your printer model and/or operating system.
- PRINTER INSTALLATION ... This Step Assumes That You Have Not Installed Your Printer and/or Printer Software/Driver As Yet.
- Connect your printer to your computer via the supplied data cable ...the Epson T50 uses a USB 2.0 compliant cable.
- Plug in your printer's power cable ...the Epson T50 uses a two pin 'figure-eight' cable.
NOTE: For USB printer installation DO NOT switch on your printer at this stage. You will be instructed to do so during software/driver installation.
- Insert your printer's software/driver disc into your ROM, and follow the instructions on the screen.
NOTE: If the installation does not begin automatically, then browse/explore the disc, and click on the SETUP file to begin the installation process manually.
- PRINTER CARTRIDGE INSTALLATION ... This Step Assumes That You Have Not Installed Your Printer Cartridges As Yet.
- Once the software/driver installation has completed successfully, move the ink cartridge carriage across to the REPLACE INK CARTRIDGES position, and install the set of cartridges that came with the printer.
NOTE: To move the ink cartridge carriage, either press the INK BUTTON on the printer ...on the Epson T50, this is the middle button (right of the green power button) at the front left of the printer. Alternatively, you may access this function through the printer's DRIVER PREFERENCES dialog box. DO NOT try to move the carriage manually ...when the carriage is at rest on the right-hand side of the printer, it is in "PARK" mode, and any attempt to move it will damage the locking and/or gearing mechanism underneath, and possibly the printheads as well.
- Once you have installed the cartridges, return the ink cartridge carriage to the PARK position, by pressing the INK BUTTON, or via the printer's DRIVER PREFERENCES dialog box ... the printer will recognize the new set of cartridges, and perform an initial printhead clean/ink cartridge charging process.
- PRINTER INKJET NOZZLE & PURGE PATTERN PRINT TESTS
- Once the printer has completed it's initial printhead clean/ink cartridge charging process, and the printer is in its READY state (only the green power/ready indicator light should be illuminated), perform an initial NOZZLE PRINT test, which can be accessed via the printer's DRIVER PREFERENCES dialog box, and is generally located under the MAINTENANCE tab. If the nozzle print test pattern matches that displayed on the screen, then your printer is ready for printing. If not, you may need to perform a PRINTHEAD CLEAN cycle, also located under MAINTENANCE. Once the cycle is completed, print another NOZZLE PRINT test, and compare the results again.
NOTE: For more information refer to Inkjet Printer Printhead Cleaning & Test Print Patterns.
- Once you are satisifed with the NOZZLE PRINT test, download and print PURGING TEST PATTERN - 6 COLOUR PRINTERS (right click & 'SAVE AS'). This will draw ink into the nozzles, remove any trapped air bubbles and/or contaminents, and prime the nozzles for installation of the CISS
- Once you are satisifed with the PURGE TEST PATTERN print, move the ink cartridge carriage to the REPLACE INK CARTRIDGES position as described above, remove the cartridges and return the carriage to the PARK position.
- CISS INSTALLATION
- Install the CISS cartridge set, making sure that the cartridges are seated correctly and clipped firmly into place to ensure that the pins make proper firm contact with the chips.
NOTE: On some printers the ink cartridge carriage must first be in the PARK position to allow room to pass the CISS cartridge set into the printer so that it can be installed... the Epson T50 has two separate openings. The CISS cartridge set must be passed into the printer through the left-side opening, beneath the crossover bar, then up and out out of the right-side opening. Then with the ink tubes held out of the way, the ink cartridge carriage is moved to the REPLACE INK CARTRIDGES position and the CISS cartridge set installed.
NOTE: On some printers it may be necessary to remove the ink cartridge locking cover to allow for the CISS tubes ...the T50 has a small black rectangular cover plate at the top right-hand corner of the ink cartridge carriage, held in place by a small plastic clip on the right-hand side of the cover plate. A small flat screwdriver is all that is required to prise the cover plate off and explose the screw underneath that holds the cartridge locking cover in place. In addition the T50 has a TOP COVER LID CLOSED sensor located at the inside top bottom left of the printer, beneath the EPSON 81N/82N cartridge logo. Because the ink tubes need to pass out of the top of the printer, the lid must remain open, and hence the sensor is not closed off and the printer will not print. You may 'wedge' the top lid open, or remove it completely without difficulty. However, you will need to wedge a small object (eg. wadded paper) into the sensor slot, so that the printer thinks the lid is closed and will therefore operate properly.
NOTE: The CISS reservoir unit MUST be positioned at the same level as your printer. Whether it is positioned on the left or right, will depend on your printer model ...in most cases it will be on the left, and this product has been designed that way, but it will operate without problems with the unit on the right as well. In either scenario you must make certain however, that the 'travel' of the ink tubes does not interfere with the movement of the ink cartridge carriage.
- CISS INK RESERVOIR FILLING
- Now that you have installed the CISS cartridge set, remove ONLY the larger of the individually coloured FRONT plugs from each of the ink reservoirs and fill each chamber in turn, replacing the plugs as you go to avoid spills and potential crossover contamination.
NOTE: DO NOT fill the ink chambers to the top. Instead allow for at least 10mm at the top to ensure proper air flow and system pressurisation. In addition, take note not to confuse CYAN & LIGHT CYAN, and MAGENTA & LIGHT MAGENTA.
- Once you have filled the reservoir chambers, remove the REAR air flow plugs and insert one of the 'spindle' like air filter plugs instead.
NOTE: DO NOT attempt to re-insert the air flow plug over the air filter.
- CISS PRESSURISATION
- To pressurise your system, return the ink cartridge carriage to the PARK position, as descibed above. As per the installation of the non-CISS cartridges above, the printer will perform an initial printhead clean and ink cartridge charging. When the charging occurs you will see ink being drawn into the tubes at first, and then into the cartridges. It may require 1-2 attempts before you will see ink entering the cartridges. When this occurs perform 1 further cycle to ensure that sufficient ink has entered the cartridges and passed into the nozzles..
NOTE: You need to make certain, that the 'travel' of the ink tubes does not interfere with the movement of the ink cartridge carriage. Once you have taken note of the travel, locate a position on the printer where the tubes can be held in place, then fasten one of the small rectangular plastic or T-shaped clips to the ink tubes, peel off the green backing and attach it to the printer ...on an Epson T50 it is at a 45 degree angle from the top left hand corner of the printer facing inward.
- CISS PRINTER INKJET NOZZLE & PURGE PATTERN PRINT TESTS
- Follow the NOZZLE TEST and PURGE PATTERN print tests proceedure described above. Once you are satisified with the results, your printer will be ready for CISS printing.
- CISS MAINTENANCE
- From this point on, the only maintenance required is to periodically reset the ink cartridge levels by pressing and holding the white reset button for 5 seconds, and to refill the ink reservoirs as required.
NOTE: When you send a print job to the printer, provided that you haven't switched off ink monitoring, a dialog box will display on the screen showing ink levels prior to printing. If the ink levels have reached a certain point, a message will also display inside the dialog box as follows: "IT IS ALMOST TIME TO REPLACE YOUR INK CARTRIDGES". At this point allow the current page only to complete printing. Once printing has stopped, press the INK BUTTON on the printer to move the ink cartridge carriage to the REPLACE INK CARTRIDGES position. Press and hold the ink level reset button for 5 seconds, then press the INK BUTTON again to return the ink cartridge carriage to the PARK position.
NOTE: If you do not do this at this time, your printer may stop during a print and display the message: "INK CARTRIDGES CANNOT BE RECOGNISED". Once you reset the ink levels, the remainder of the print job will be printed on the next page instead.
NOTE: The ink levels displayed under INK MONITORING may not have been updated at this stage. However, when you returned the ink cartridge carriage to the PARK position, the printer would have performed an initial printhead clean/ink cartridge charging cycle, and you will also note that the "IT IS ALMOST TIME TO REPLACE YOUR INK CARTRIDGES" message is no longer displayed when you print. The ink levels indicator display will be updated the next time that the printer is initialised. In the meantime, you can continue to print as per normal.
